Our guest author Linnea Erkamo visited Hálo from North pre-opening event on Monday. The pop-up store is now open for everyone. Read what Linnea has to say about this beautiful design brand from Finland!
Hálo was born in Lapland, based in Helsinki and made in Europe. In 2017, two Finnish fashion professionals, fashion producer Marta Valtovirta and designer Jukka Puljujärvi, got an idea of a pure and sustainable brand with a Northern twist. This is how hálo was born. Unique Finnish design combined with hand-picked European manufacturers make this brand a long-lost ode to the Finnish fashion industry.
2. Four seasons in one
Hálo introduces an innovative season thinking instead of having two main collections in a year. It only launches one season in a year and thus wants to fight against fast fashion. The collection of hálo actually consists of eight different series describing the four seasons of the Finnish nature. Thus, you can find items for each time of the year, all year round. Changing seasons and the arctic wilderness have also been the biggest inspirations for hálo.
“Lapland with its unique nature and atmosphere is one of the biggest treasures of Finland. We want to bring this beauty of Nordics into peoples’ everyday lives and share it through our products. Lapland is continuously becoming more popular and well-known around the world, which can also make hálo stand out globally.” says Marta.
3. Materials to die for
Smooth silk, finest merino wool and soft viscose. Hálo only uses the best materials from European suppliers in its items. You can not only see it but also feel it right on your skin. And that if something is luxurious. The high-quality materials make it pleasant to wear the clothes and also secure them a long life cycle. Also, the prints that hálo uses are somewhat special and designed exclusively by hálo.
“We are especially proud of our hálo x Reidar Särestöniemi capsule collection. Särestöniemi (1925-1981) was a famous Finnish painter originally from Lapland. In the Reidar collection, the vividness of his art becomes alive.” tells Marta. No wonder why the Reidar collection has been one of the best-sellers of the brand.

4. From casual to cocktail
What a woman wants, hálo has it. Every collection offers clothes from functional everyday garments to exclusive party pieces. The design is timeless and also has an inspiring story behind it. Or what do you think of the NEVA series telling about the delicateness of the midnight sun or the KAAMOS series following the dance of the Northern lights?
5. Gimme that piece of clothing!
Even though hálo is a unique and exclusive fashion brand, it is also easily accessible. The collection can be seen and bought at hálo’s well-designed webstore and at selected stockists in Finland. From the 5th of December 2017, the whole collection can also be found and bought at their pop-up store at Galleria Esplanad in Helsinki.
“Many of the customers want to see and feel our collection in real-life, not only through the computer screen. By opening the pop-up store, we want to offer people the opportunity to experience the brand with all senses.” explains Marta. Also, people abroad should stay tuned since hálo is going to go global during spring 2018. A win-win situation to everybody.
